Clothing Choices
Clothing may not seem like an important issue regarding your portrait but with proper clothing selections your portrait will have a sense of drama and balance.
When deciding what to wear, it is best to follow these guidelines:
Avoid stripes or patterns, solid colors work best as they dont distract the viewers eye from the beautiful faces in the portrait.
To keep attention on the faces, minimize bare arms and legs by wearing long sleeves and long pants, this mostly applies to adults.
In a family portrait, keep everyone in the same color hues, such as all pastels or all darker jewel tones. Avoid having one person deviate from the others as that will be the first thing noticed in the portrait and the viewer will be distracted.
If you prefer lighter or white backgrounds, stick to light or white casual clothing. If you prefer darker, more formal backgrounds, wear darker jewel toned clothing.
